Mourinho agent in more Barcelona talks yesterday
The agent of Jose Mourinho held talks with Barcelona vice-president Marc Ingla and sports director Txiki Begiristain yesterday. El Mundo Deportivo says while Jorge Mendes will have spoken with the Barca directors about his clients, Deco and Rafael Marquez, he will also have again been pumped for information about Mourinho's situation.
Mendes has already met with Barca chiefs in the last month in Lisbon as Mourinho's shadow looms large over Frank Rijkaard's reign this season. It's suggested a mutual commitment between Barca and Mourinho will hold until June.
Jose Mourinho is being lined up by Barcelona to replace Frank Rijkaard in the summer.
The Sunday Mirror says Catalan giants accept that Frank Rijkaard's reign as coach looks certain to end at the end of this season. Given Barca trail arch-rivals Real Madrid in La Liga, it will take a Champions League triumph to ensure Rijkaard stays in charge at the Nou Camp.
Barca are preparing a huge war-chest to help recruit free agent Mourinho and set him up with a fund to ensure the world's best players want to sign for them.
Skipper Puyol: Mourinho at Barcelona? Why not?
Barcelona captain Carles Puyol admits he'd welcome former Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho to the Nou Camp next season. "Mourinho? Why not? He is a great coach," said Puyol. "But with our current boss (Frank Rijkaard), we are doing well."
The defender also revealed: "I would like retire at Barca. I have a contract until 2010 and I will do everything possible to stay with the club. "If I can't, then I could not play for another team in the Spanish Liga."
